Our Services | Genetic Donation
Legal Clarity and Care for Every Genetic Donation Journey
Egg, sperm, and embryo donations make parenthood possible for countless families each year — but every donation journey carries unique legal and emotional considerations.
At Tarnoff Family Formation, we ensure that donors and recipients alike are fully protected, informed, and supported through each step of the process.
Whether you’re an intended parent growing your family or a donor giving an extraordinary gift, our role is to bring peace of mind through clear agreements, ethical guidance, and personal attention.
Types of Donation Agreements We Handle
Whether you’re a donor or intended parent, we make sure your agreement reflects your true intentions — and complies fully with California law.
Egg Donation
Whether through an agency or independently matched, we draft and review agreements that protect both the donor and intended parents.
Sperm Donation
Ensuring rights, responsibilities, and expectations are clearly defined before any medical procedures take place.
Embryo Donation
Helping intended parents and donors navigate ownership, consent, and future use with care and clarity.
Understanding the legal process
Genetic Donation involves multiple phases, and we guide you through each one:
1. Pre-Agreement Consultation
We start by reviewing match documents to confirm all preconditions have been met. We’ll also help you advocate for your preferences regarding confidentiality, future contact, and disposition of cryopreserved genetic material.
2. Drafting and Negotiation
We draft or review your donation agreement, explain each term in clear, plain language, and coordinate negotiation with the other party’s attorney. The focus is on fairness, mutual understanding, and efficiency.
3. Legal Clearance
Once both parties sign, we issue legal clearance to the IVF clinic or agency so your treatment or transfer can move forward without delay.
Important Considerations We Help You Navigate
Donation agreements involve sensitive, long-term decisions. We help you navigate topics such as:
What will happen to remaining embryos after treatment is complete?
Options include: discard, donate to medical research, or donate to another family for conception.
For embryo donation, would unused embryos be returned to the donors?
Will the parties maintain future contact to exchange medical updates?
Will the parties register with the Donor Sibling Registry or a similar service?
Have all parties completed psychological interviews?
Will the donor be informed of any resulting births?
Is the donor open to future contact with the child upon request? For embryo donation, will biological siblings have the opportunity for future contact?
